Viral

Terms of service

Last updated 28 August 2026.

What this is

Viral is a private, self-hosted tool that sends an Instagram Direct Message in reply to a comment containing a keyword the operator has configured. It is operated for the operator's own Instagram accounts. It is not offered to the public, and there is no sign-up.

Acceptable use

The operator agrees not to use this service to:

  • send unsolicited bulk messages, or any message whose purpose is spam;
  • impersonate another person or organisation;
  • distribute malware, phishing links, or content that is illegal where the recipient is;
  • circumvent Instagram's rate limits, messaging windows, or any other platform restriction.

Use of this service is additionally governed by Meta's Platform Terms and the Instagram Terms of Use. Where they conflict with anything here, they take precedence.

Messaging limits

Instagram permits exactly one private reply per comment, and only within seven days of that comment. The service enforces both, along with a per-person cooldown and an hourly send cap, so that a viral post cannot turn into a flood of messages.

Availability

The service is provided as-is, with no uptime guarantee. It depends on Meta's Graph API and webhook delivery, and neither is under the operator's control. Messages may be delayed or not sent at all.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any loss arising from the use of this service, including messages that were not delivered, were delivered late, or were delivered to the wrong person.

Termination

The operator may stop running this service at any time. Meta may revoke this application's access at any time. Either ends the service immediately.
